Vehicle Maintenance Technician

Program Description

Learn to diagnose, adjust and repair automotive vehicles. The program includes a community classroom component at the end of training. Curriculum & materials are included. Students learn both in the classroom and in an industry, setting performing the duties of an automotive technician. Students will learn and be responsible for diagnosing and repairing vehicle engine systems including the following:

  • Repair brake and steering systems
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems
  • Replace or repair transmissions and fuel components as needed
  • Repair cooling components and systems including air conditioners and engine cooling
  • Perform emissions inspections, safety checks and similar state-regulated vehicle examinations
  • Maintain a clean, safe working environment
  • Produce legible and accurate paperwork reflecting work performed

Length: 305 hrs. (193hr. + 112hrs Work-Based Learning) Students are required to complete 3.5 hrs of independent study each week as assigned.

Program Requirements:

  • 18 yrs. of age or older 

  • Ability to perform required essential functions of an automotive technician including safety standards, good physical health & ability to stoop & bend

  • Upon completion of the program, adult students should possess a willingness to secure employment
  • Driver’s License, clean driving record and reliable transportation is recommended upon seeking employment
