Automotive Technician 1

Course Description

Automotive Technician 1 is a foundational course that provides students with basic vehicle service skills and a general understanding of automotive system components for entry-level jobs. Emphasis is placed on proper use of common tools, equipment, personal protective equipment and OSHA safety practices in the workplace and general lab. Students will think critically and solve problems related to customer service and vehicle components such as engine repair, transmission, drive train systems, suspension/steering, electrical/electronic systems, and heating/air conditioning systems. Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a solid foundation in National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) standards and be prepared for other industry certifications. Activities in this course include work-based learning that connects students to industry and the local community. Students must successfully complete Automotive Technician 1 and Automotive Technician 2 as part of the minimum requirements for articulation.
