Graphic Communications 1

Course Description

Graphic Communications 1 is a foundational course in the Graphics Production Technologies pathway designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in desktop publishing and the printing industry. Students will design and create publications using industry-standard software while acquiring basic computer and file management skills. Topics include cost estimation, layout and design, typography and typesetting, visual communication, color theory, platemaking, offset lithography and prepress. Emphasis is placed on workshop safety, career and employability preparation, critical thinking, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Activities in this course include work-based learning that connects students to industry and the local community. Students must successfully complete Graphic Communications 1 and Graphic Communications 2 for pathway completion and/or articulation.
